Chocolate Country is a beautiful artisan chocolate shop in Montville, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Selling handcrafted chocolates made locally in their factory, this is a true chocolate lover’s dream, and a must-visit in Montville.

The Chocolate Factory in Hunchy

Chocolate Country’s factory HQ sits in a big red barn on a peaceful farm in nearby Hunchy. Picture duck ponds, a huge deck to soak in the views, and wind chimes gently tinkling in the breeze. There’s even an Airbnb onsite if you fancy an overnight stay.

The barn is also home to the Chocolate School, where master chocolatier Julie runs two-hour classes once a month teaching you how to create some of their most delicious treats. Special longer classes are held a few times a year – perfect for hen parties, corporate events or special celebrations. For bookings check their website.

Inside the factory, the large chocolate-making room is packed with special equipment – this is where the magic happens! The factory produces everything for the Montville store, and will continue supplying new franchise locations as they open.

I was lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the factory, meet the lovely team and watch them make everything from fudge and honeycomb to chocolate frogs, truffles, Dubai chocolate, slabs and chocolate spoons. The still-warm fudge, pistachio-filled Dubai chocolate, and cinnamon truffles I sampled were absolutely divine, and the smell in the factory is incredible.

Once made, every product is beautifully packaged, ready for the shop shelves.

Chocolate Country Montville

Housed in a charming brick building that blends perfectly with the Montville streetscape, the Chocolate Country shop is a delightful space.

The centrepiece is a huge round counter overflowing with individual chocolates and truffles as far as the eye can see. The selection on display is impressive – the hardest part will be choosing only a few!

Take some time to really look at these chocolates. Each one is exquisitely detailed and made with care – something I can personally vouch for after seeing them crafted in the factory. This is a family-run business with a deep passion for chocolate, and it shows.

Not only are the chocolates beautifully made, but the flavour range is really varied. Alongside the classics, you’ll find unique selections like apple pie, Turkish Delight and lavender.

Lining the walls of the shop are boxes and bags of fudge, honeycomb, rocky road and more – perfect for taking home.

You’ll also find some novelty creations here too, like chocolate shoes, chocolate dogs, a chocolate toolbox and even a chocolate crocodile. If you can make it out of chocolate, it’s probably in this shop!

With everything so beautifully packaged and presented, Chocolate Country is the perfect place to pick up gifts. If you love the sound of this but can’t get to Montville, don’t worry – you can buy all their products online.

The Chocolate Cafe

Inside the chocolate shop is a small cafe selling magnificent hot chocolates and tasting boxes.

Take your hot chocolate outside to the courtyard with its pretty fountain and seating, perfect for relaxing with some delicious treats.

Bonus: the courtyard area is dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole family.

Dubai Chocolate Made in Australia

The Dubai chocolate deserves a special mention. In case you’ve missed it, the Dubai chocolate craze of chocolate bars filled with pistachio and kataifi is sweeping the globe. Chocolate Country’s Dubai bars are unique in that the pistachio paste is made fresh in the factory with Australian pistachios, making it a truly Australian-made Dubai bar – and the tastiest I’ve tried yet.

Exploring Montville

The main Chocolate Country shop is located in the heart of Montville.

If you haven’t been, Montville is a charming Hinterland town with a main street of unique shops, scenic views and plenty of character.

Plan Your Visit to Chocolate Country

Chocolate Country is located in Montville, 1.5 hours from Brisbane.

Parking in Montville can get busy, but there’s a hidden free car park right next to the chocolate shop.

The Hunchy factory isn’t open to the public except during Chocolate School.
