The Hyatt Regency is an upmarket hotel in the heart of Brisbane. I took the whole family to sample their “Season of Sunshine” Queensland high tea, held in Lennons Restaurant.

If you like high teas, have a look at my guide to the best high teas in Brisbane.

The Venue

The Hyatt Regency is a 5-star hotel located in the Brisbane CBD. High tea is served in Lennons Restaurant, a contemporary and sophisticated dining space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Queen Street Mall below.

Lennons is an elevated dining option in more ways than one. You can enjoy buffet breakfast, high tea, lunch and dinner, all delivered by friendly staff and knowledgeable chefs. It’s a great choice for an upmarket dining experience in Brisbane.

The Menu

The “Season of Sunshine” high tea at the Hyatt Regency is Queensland-themed, showcasing produce from the Sunshine State and featuring their signature dessert – the “Sunshine State Pineapple Meringue“.

The high tea here is a traditional affair, served on a tiered stand consisting of a layer of savouries, a layer of scones with jam and cream, and a layer of sweet treats.

There’s no separate kids’ high tea menu, but children are welcome to enjoy the full high tea with you.

Are you looking for a kids’ high tea in Brisbane? This is a great option.

The Tea

Included with your high tea is unlimited tea and coffee, with the option to upgrade to Prosecco, champagne or a cocktail. There’s no designated tea menu, but the standards like English Breakfast, ginger and honey, peppermint and chamomile are available. A few fruity or herbal tea options would be a welcome addition.

The Savouries

The savoury selection consists of a Mooloolaba prawn roll, ham and Dijon brioche bun and chicken and pesto wrap. Everything tasted freshly prepared, with light flavours perfect for summer. I really enjoyed the chicken wrap, and the kids could have eaten many more of the ham brioches!

The Scones

The raspberry scones were served with raspberry jam and chantilly cream. They were fresh and warm and the cream was lovely and thick. The scones were a nice breather between the savouries and the sweets – not too big or heavy, but a perfect little bite with the jam and cream.

I’m a high tea purist and I’m yet to find a high tea in Australia that serves traditional clotted cream with their scones. That said, the cream here was really thick and unctuous which is about as close as you can get.

Want to know where else we’ve found really thick cream in Australia? Have a read of this.

The Sweets

The sweets were absolutely the highlight of the Hyatt Regency high tea. They’ve been very carefully thought out, with a wonderful combination of flavours and presented so beautifully. The selection included the signature pineapple meringue, a honey cake, mango cheesecake and a cherry chocolate mousse tart. The Queensland theme runs throughout, with local ingredients like Bowen mangoes and Coolibah honey.

The pineapple meringue was a unanimous favourite. Similar to a lemon meringue pie, it was light and zesty, with a delicious pineapple curd and crisp pastry. The honey cake was also sublime – the delicate layers of cream and cake were sensational. The cherry chocolate mousse tart was another standout. It’s one of my favourite flavour combinations and was surprisingly light.

Hyatt Regency High Tea – Final Thoughts

This is a light, summer high tea with fresh, seasonal flavours prepared by a chef who clearly knows what he’s doing. Served in a contemporary restaurant setting, and infusing local flavours with all the traditional elements of a high tea, it’s a calm spot for a sophisticated high tea amid the bustle of Brisbane’s city centre.

Good to Know

The “Season of Sunshine” high tea is $65 per person and includes unlimited tea and coffee with options to upgrade to Prosecco or Champagne.

Getting There

The Hyatt Regency is located right in the middle of Queen Street Mall, making public transport a great option, and there’s plenty of paid parking options nearby.

With thanks to the Hyatt Regency for hosting us! All thoughts and opinions are, as always, my own.
