Coolum is a beachside suburb at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast.
This relaxed coastal town is known for its beautiful beaches, cafe culture and laid-back vibe.
Here are five things to do in Coolum.
1. Hit the Beach
If you’re coming to the Sunshine Coast, you’re likely coming for the beaches. These endless stretches of golden sand run up and down the coast for miles.
Tickle Park
The wonderfully named Tickle Park is the main recreational beach area at the southern end of Coolum Beach. With a surf club and a playground overlooking the ocean, it’s a great spot to bring the whole family.
Coolum Beach
If you’d prefer to walk on the beach, head slightly north around Lions Park and you’ll find access to a beautiful open stretch of sand. It’s not suitable for swimming, but it’s perfect for long walks along the beach.

Stumers Creek
Continue north along the beach and you’ll reach Stumers Creek. The stretch of beach between Lions Park and Stumers Creek is all off-leash dog-friendly and a very popular spot for locals and their four-legged friends.
2. Cafe Culture
Coolum has a strong cafe scene. Cross the road from Tickle Park and you’ll find plenty of cafes and restaurants lining the street.

For something a little more stylish, head north towards Coolum Beach and Lions Park and you’ll find The Coolum Social – a chic spot with coastal vibes and colourful food, perfect for coffee or brunch. Read my full review of The Coolum Social here.

3. Enjoy the Parks
For families, Tickle Park is a must, with its playground overlooking the beach.
If you’re after a more laid-back vibe, head towards Lions and Norrie Park. You’ll find locals walking their dogs, enjoying the sunshine and maybe even doing tai chi in the park.

4. Point Arkwright
Just down the coast from Coolum is Point Arkwright. This coastal headland offers superb views of the coastline with benches to enjoy to sit and take it all in. Walking trails along the coast start and end here.

Visit in winter and you might even spot humpback whales.
If you like whales, why not try whale watching – the humpback whales come to the waters off Queensland every year!
5. Mount Coolum
If you’re feeling energetic, climb to the top of Mount Coolum for spectacular views. This uphill walk is 1.5 km and requires a reasonable level of fitness, taking around 1 to 1.5 hours round trip – but the panoramic coastal views at the top are well worth the effort.
Where to Stay in Coolum
If you want to stay right on Coolum Beach, there’s a large holiday park just steps away from the sand, offering camping and villa accommodation.

What’s Nearby
Coolum would make a great base for a holiday on the Sunshine Coast. To the north you’ll find the stunning Noosa and the quieter Peregian Beach. Head south for the buzz of Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.
