Tamborine Mountain, only an hour from Brisbane, feels like another world. Climb the mountain and enter the rainforest, and you’ll be met with tranquil settings, stunning views and excellent food and drink.
Here’s how I’d spend a perfect day in Tamborine Mountain.
Start with pastries at Franquette
Just at the top of Gallery Walk, you might see a line forming outside this small bakery. Their wall of bread, including the largest sourdough loaf I’ve ever seen, cabinet of freshly stocked pastries, and rows of chocolate croissants, is simply irresistible.

Take a Stroll Down Gallery Walk
With a belly full of coffee and croissants, take a leisurely stroll down Gallery Walk. This unique street is full of quirky shops, including the must-visit German Cuckoo Clock Nest. Elsewhere on the street, see if you can spot the water wheel, the ducks and the fairy garden.

Tamborine Mountain Distillery
At the other end of Gallery Walk, be sure to stop at the Tamborine Mountain Distillery. This peaceful spot feels a world away from the bustle of the street, with old-worm charm, cosy interiors, and a playground for the kids to enjoy while you sample some delicious liqueurs and spirits. Try the tasting paddle for a selection of your choosing – the banana liqueur was my favourite. The rows of beautiful bottles inside the distillery make for excellent gifts to take home.

Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens
These serene botanic gardens contain Japanese gardens, fountains, lakes, wildlife and a secret trail through the forest. The gardens are quiet and perfect for the kids, full of so much to discover.

Curtis Falls
Tamborine Mountain offers plenty of natural rainforest beauty. Don’t miss the short 1.2km hike down to Curtis Falls. Along the way you might spot tropical birds, and when you reach the cool, shady waterfall, it’s worth pausing to simply admire it and enjoy listening to the sounds of nature.

Sunset at Rotary Lookout
The far-reaching views from Rotary Lookout are spectacular at any time of day, but sunset is particularly special. Bring a picnic blanket and watch the sky change colour as the sun goes down.

Dinner at Saint Marthe
For dinner, head to the village of North Tamborine, where a handful of excellent restaurants await. My favourite is Saint Marthe, a cosy French bistro with a log fire and the best cheese souffle I’ve ever had.

Stay the Night at Mountain Sanctuary B&B
Finish your day with an overnight stay at Mountain Sanctuary B&B. This warm, welcome hideaway is the perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring Tamborine Mountain.
