The Glen Hotel in Eight Mile Plains is a popular pub, hotel and event space. It’s one of our favourite Brisbane pubs with a playground.

The Venue
The Glen Hotel is a historic pub with a 160-year history. These days it has a great atmosphere, fresh interiors and a garden theme. It’s a huge venue with multiple dining spaces – you can sit on the large deck overlooking the playground, in the adjacent courtyard, or inside in a booth by the bar. Also onsite you’ll find a coffee and donut shop, an ice cream parlour and a cake fridge.
The Glen is a 4-star hotel, business and conference centre, and has a bottle shop next door. It’s a very popular venue for weddings and events. Even in the restaurant, it’s packed out with family groups and birthday celebrations.

The Food
The food at The Glen Hotel is some of the best pub grub we’ve had in Brisbane. The steaks and chicken parmis are both excellent. Fresh pizzas are available from a separate menu, and there’s the standard kids’ menu options of chicken nuggets and burgers.
The Glen isn’t a brewery so the beer is just the standard offerings – unlike some venues where the beer is excellent but the food is average.
The Glen Hotel – Playground
The outdoor playground runs alongside the deck. It consists of a tractor to climb on, a couple of caterpillar tunnels to crawl through, a little wooden cubby, a climbing area and a small plastic slide. The playground is geared towards younger kids. It’s a decent size but may not have enough to keep older kids entertained. Shade is also an issue, as the playground is covered by a shade sail which isn’t strong enough to withstand the Brisbane sun. It can get very hot in the summer and the kids will need hats.
Make sure you book in advance if you’d like to secure one of the tables directly overlooking the playground. Otherwise, the kids won’t be visible from the other tables in the courtyard or bar.
Side note: water dragons are frequent visitors to the deck so these will keep the kids well entertained if the novelty of the playground has worn off!
The Glen Hotel – Final Thoughts
The Glen is a solid choice if you’re looking for a Brisbane pub with a playground and good food. It’s a busy, popular venue and is packed out at weekends. Book your table well in advance if you’d like a spot overlooking the playground.
